Punjab Flood

Crisis Appeal

Our partner, the Church of North India - Diocese of Amritsar, has asked for help as they respond to extensive flooding in the Punjab region.

Your donation will help provide urgent supplies of food, water, shelter, hygiene kits and medicines. Please give generously.

The Ravi River has risen sharply since 27 August 2025, fueled by continuous heavy rainfall in upstream regions and sudden releases from dams. Embankments have been breached at several points, resulting in the inundation of large stretches of farmland and habitation.

Families have been forced out of their homes, taking temporary shelter on higher ground. Basic services like safe drinking water, sanitation, electricity, and healthcare access are badly disrupted. Rescue and relief operations are being undertaken by national and local agencies.

Thousands of acres of crops have been completely submerged. This loss not only affects the immediate food supply but also threatens the livelihood of hundreds of families who are dependent on agriculture for survival.

"In this hour of crisis, we humbly seek your continued solidarity and support. The people of these flood-affected villages will require sustained assistance not only during the emergency response phase but also in the coming weeks, as they work to rebuild their houses, restore their livelihoods, and return to some level of normalcy. Your partnership has always been a source of strength, and we appeal to you once again to stand with us as we navigate this challenge together."

~ Samson Ram, Project Officer on behalf of The Rt. Rev. Manoj Charan, Bishop, Diocese of Amritsar

Our Partner's Response

Through the Diocesan Social Empowerment and Education Project, the Diocese is preparing to deliver urgent relief and longer-term recovery support with help from UnitingWorld supporters:

  • Emergency relief: dry rations, drinking water, hygiene items, mosquito nets, medicines.

  • Shelter and support: tarpaulins, mats and assistance for families repairing damaged homes.

  • Child protection and education: temporary learning spaces, support for schools to reopen.

  • Livelihood recovery: alternative income programs for families who lost crops.

  • Healthcare and awareness: sessential medicine and medical camps, education for the prevention of waterborne diseases.

Relief boats are being organised with the help of the local administration and The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to reach cut-off villages. Project staff are already on the ground, waiting for safe access as waters begin to recede.
