Philippines Typhoon Appeal
Help our partners bring urgent aid in the Philippines
More than one million people have been forced from their homes in the Philippines as two powerful typhoons, Kalmaegi and Fung-Wong, have swept across the country within days of each other.
Typhoon Kalmaegi has left at least 224 people dead and hundreds missing. Before recovery efforts could even begin, Typhoon Fung-Wong made landfall, bringing winds over 185km/h, flash flooding and landslides that have destroyed homes, churches and livelihoods across northern and central Philippines.
Our partner, the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP), is stepping up to serve those most in need.
“Our communities are weary and our churches are damaged, but our faith remains firm. Together, we can help bring hope, relief and recovery to those in need. Let’s make care visible and compassion flow without end.”
- UCCP message to their members.
Congregations have opened their doors as shelters, relief hubs and places of refuge for families displaced by the storms. Through their relief agency, UCCP CARES, the Church is mobilising emergency teams to reach affected areas with food, clean water, hygiene kits, temporary shelters and solar power for isolated communities.
But the need is overwhelming, and resources are stretched thin.

UnitingWorld National Director, Dr Sureka Goringe and Church Partnerships Manager Rev Dr Apwee Ting have sent prayers and messages of solidarity to our partners in the Philippines—the UCCP and the United Methodist Church of the Philippines (UMCP)—as they respond to this crisis.
A prayer for the people of the Philippines
from Rev Dr Apwee Ting, Church Partnerships Manager, UnitingWorld
God of mercy and compassion,
we come before You with heavy hearts,
lifting up our sisters and brothers in the Philippines,
especially in Cebu, who are suffering in the wake of Typhoon Kalmaegi.
We grieve for the lives lost,
for the families mourning loved ones,
for communities torn apart by the floods,
for all who are displaced, uncertain, and afraid.
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for the United Church of Christ in the Philippines
and the United Methodist Church of the Philippines,
our partners in faith and mission.
Strengthen their leaders, pastors, and congregations
as they respond with compassion and courage.
May their churches be sanctuaries of refuge,
their hands instruments of Your love,
their words a balm of hope amid despair.
God who stills the storms,
grant wisdom to leaders,
renew the land and restore communities to peace.
Move our hearts to prayer, solidarity, and generous action,
that together we may bear witness to Your steadfast love
that never fails, even in the face of disaster.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
